The holiday season is upon us – you know, that season where the average person gains ten pounds and then “resolves” to have a more fit and healthy New Year?- Contest runs 12 weeks, beginning Saturday, October 15th and ending January 15th.
- The winner will be determined by the person with the biggest change in body composition based on measurements and percent body fat. (Other factors may be taken into consideration if there are two winners tied for first place.)
- And YO – This is NOT a weight loss competition. We say that because we want this contest to inspire you to make life-long healthy changes & be a motivating force for you to get healthy & fit safely. (Weight loss per se is NOT the best way to measure progress! Plus, some people may not need to lose any weight, but can increase strength and muscle mass and still participate in the contest.)
- Although most of our clients are women, men are totally welcome to participate! However – women who are currently pregnant should not enter the contest. (Sorry!) Also, women must be at least 6 weeks postpartum & have clearance from prenatal care provider or physician to begin an exercise program.
- Option 1: $349, which includes entrance fee AND up to 24 group training sessions w/Jen (maximum of two group sessions per week for the duration of the contest.) Jen will teach you an incredible & functional toning & circuit training workout you can easily do at home in-between meet-ups. (Weekly check-ins required; see contest rules.) All training sessions will take place at specified times (see below) at Salt Lake Prenatal Massage, Group Fitness Room – 28 E. 2100 South, Suite 118, Salt Lake City, UT 84115. Early bird discount: $314 if registered by Oct 1st!
- Option 2: $59 Entrance Fee if you are simply working out on your own during the 12 week period (does not include any group training but you can do whatever you want – P90X, Jillian Michaels, your own gym or trainer). (Weekly check-ins required; see contest rules.) Early bird discount: $49 if registered by Oct 1st!
- Registration deadline: October 15, 2011 11:59PM - must have initial weigh in & measurements completed by Jen on Oct 15, 2011 between 8am-4pm (unless previously arranged for a different day)

- Must schedule and complete Weigh-In Every Week with Jen (regularly scheduled times on Saturdays, and before and after blocks of group training sessions – this keeps you ACCOUNTABLE! Look forward to it!). Virtual weigh-in option: for those who live further away and are unable to come to the clinic for weekly weigh-ins, you may email two pictures to jen@slcprenatalmassage.com: 1) of you on your scale with something that shows the current date, 2) your feet on the scale and the actual readout of your weight. Measurements by Jen are still required every 4 weeks (see below.)
- Must schedule and complete your measurements with Jen every 4 weeks (% Body Fat & Inches)
- Winner is determined by the person with the BIGGEST overall body composition changes based on measurements and percent body fat
- Contestants will be disqualified for missing weekly check-ins (failing to complete weigh-ins/measurements without communicating with Jen)

You can attend up to two of these training times per week. Space is limited to five people per session.

FAQs:
- How do I win? - The person with the biggest overall change (calculated by change in percent body fat & change in inches) after the 12 week challenge will be crowned our winner! We want anyone to be able to participate, including people who want to gain muscle mass and size. This is a fitness challenge, meaning we want it to inspire and motivate you to make healthy lifelong changes to enhance your health & wellness. It’s not a weight loss contest, although healthy weight loss will certainly help!
- How much does it cost? – Two options for entrance: You can enter for $59 to cover administrative costs & are on your own to create results (do whatever you want: get a trainer, P90X/Insanity, nutritionist etc) or you can pay $349 and that will cover your entrance fee plus gives you up to 24 group fitness sessions with Jen to be used 2x weekly over the 12 week duration.
- What if I miss a group session? - We will not issue refunds of any kind nor schedule make-up sessions for missed group fitness with Jen. She has plenty of options during the week to fit into your schedule. The twice weekly workouts are not required, but hopefully if you choose THAT entrance option, you’ll realize the value of fitting in those group training sessions! You are also encouraged to workout at home on the days you aren’t attending group training. This is about RESULTS, people!
- How do I reserve slots in the group sessions? - after you have registered for the fitness challenge, email Jen at jen@SLCPrenatalMassage.com or call her at 801.787.0325 with the days & times you want to reserve. To make sure you get the slots you want, the more in advance you reserve the better; because once a time slot is full (5 participants max) that session will be closed. Also know there is a 24 hr cancellation policy, so if you reserve a spot them change your mind last minute, that will count as a missed, non-refundable session.
- What does percent body fat mean? - Percent body fat tells you the percentage of your weight that is lean mass (muscles, tissue, organs, bone, etc) and the percentage that is fat mass. This is a much more accurate tell for your overall health than weight because muscle weighs more than fat! For example someone could weigh 200 pounds and have 10% body fat (which is great for a man), meaning 20 pounds of fat mass and 180 pounds of lean mass, or they could have 30% body fat (which is an unhealthy amount for a man) which means they have 60 pounds of fat mass and 140 pounds of lean mass. So if you are losing fat mass & gaining muscle mass, the number on the scale may not be changing, but you are changing your body composition and getting more & more healthy.
- Where can I get the equipment Jen uses in her sessions? – Jen has it for sale at the clinic so you can contact her to purchase whatever you need at home.

Fine print, other questions and details:
- Option 1 includes UP TO 24 (twice-weekly for 12 weeks) sessions with Jen. You do not have to attend twice (heck, you could even schedule more private sessions with Jen if you’d like!), but you may attend up to two scheduled group training sessions per week. Missed sessions will not be made up.
- After registering for the Fitness Challenge, you must reserve your training time slots in advance with Jen by emailing her at jen@SLCPrenatalMassage.com or calling her at 801.787.0325. The more in advance the better. Also know that if you reserve a slot, you cannot change it once that session is 24 hours or less away. If you reserve it and then can’t make it within the 24 hours before, that will be a missed session that will not be refunded.
- No refunds or makeup sessions for missed group fitness sessions for any reason (ill, vacation etc). Working out on your own is expected!
- Debilitating Injuries – must get Dr’s note. If you have to drop out of the challenge due to a serious injury, we will not issue a refund, but we’ll credit you with sessions to be used once recovered to be used within 3 months after you are all healed up.
- If you become pregnant during the 12-week period: once again, no refunds, but we’ll credit you with sessions to be used for maternity fitness private sessions within a 3 month period.
- Missed weigh-ins: Weigh-ins must be done every week. If you miss a weigh in, this will disqualify you from the challenge UNLESS you schedule a time to weigh-in specially with Jen before & after your absence. If this is the case, you must have 2 weigh-ins in a 14 day time frame to keep you from being disqualified. Just communicate with Jen in advance!
- Missed measurements: % Body Fat & Inches must be taken every 4 weeks. If you miss one, you will be disqualified from the challenge UNLESS you make arrangements with Jen BEFORE the missed check-in to arrange for measurements to be taken a different time.

Ok, so we HAVE to come in and weigh with Jen EVERY week. That seems like it will be hard to do for those who are not opting for the workout package.

How soon after giving birth can people safely and fairly participate?
As a breast-feeding new Mom, is this something that I can still participate in? Will there be any child care options if I want to do the 24 sessions with jen?

Hi Teri, most women have clearance from their prenatal care provider to resume physical activity after 6 weeks postpartum. It’s always recommended, however, that you check with you physician before engaging in any physical fitness at any point (that sounds so… disclaimer-ish!) Let us know if you have any other questions. Hi Tiffany! As long as your doc or midwife has signed off on physical fitness, of course you can participate! Child care MAY be an option we can add if we have enough need for it, but it would be an additional charge. Coordinate directly with Jen and let her know what your needs are. Hope you can join us! If your baby is a weeee infant, I don’t see any issue with bringing them along – but like I said talk to Jen.
